Viral TikTok Pesto Eggs Recipe
This viral pesto eggs recipe is a tasty, balanced breakfast that makes healthy eating easy.
It’s a great weekday breakfast because it comes together quickly but it’s also “fancy” enough for a weekend brunch.
Pesto and eggs are a really delicious combo and are so good for breakfast, especially if you prefer a savory breakfast. I couldn’t get behind sweet potato toast but this recipe gets a yes from me.
This recipe is best with Sunny-Side-Up Eggs but a traditional fried egg works fine too.
A fried pesto egg is so simple to make because it only calls for a few main ingredients. Pesto adds SO much flavor. It’s made with basil, pine nuts, olive oil, and parmesan cheese. A little goes a long way and is a sure-fire way to flavor up simple protein dishes!
Viral Pesto Eggs were originally shared by Amy Wilichowski (@amywilichowski) on TikTok and have been popular ever since. They’ve been viewed over 8 million times! Her version is made with goat cheese but I’m not a huge fan so I prefer avocado.

How to Make Pesto Eggs
Step 1. Heat a non-stick frying pan over medium-low heat. Add the 2 tablespoons of pesto and increase to medium heat and cook for 1 minute.
Step 2. Crack the eggs over the pesto and season with salt and fresh cracked pepper. Cook the eggs to your desired doneness. (I prefer Sunnyside Up with the yolk still runny.)
Step 3. Top each slice of Sourdough Toast with 1/4 avocado. Slice the avocado thinly or mash the avocado.
Step 4. Top each piece of toast with 1 egg and garnish with crushed red pepper flakes, if desired. Serve immediately.






What to Serve With Pesto Eggs
I like to serve these Pesto Eggs on a slice of toasted sourdough bread. Sometimes, I make avocado toast and smash 1/4 – 1/2 an avocado on the toast before adding the eggs.
I also highly recommend adding a bit more pesto to the egg after it’s cooked.
You could also make a pesto egg sandwich. Just sandwich the cooked pesto egg between two slices of bread (keto bread for low calorie) and add a thin slice of cheese if you want!
A sprinkle of crushed red pepper flakes, fresh cracked black pepper, parmesan cheese, ricotta cheese, goat cheese, a sprinkle of flaky sea salt, or fresh tomatoes or cherry tomatoes, and fresh basil are great topping ideas too.
There are LOTS of flavor combinations that you could try to keep things interesting.

Eggs are a healthy source of protein and a great addition to a healthy diet. They’re also a good source of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants.
Nutrients are found in the yolk and the egg white is pure protein. Each egg is around 77 calories and contain 6 grams of protein.
Pasture raised eggs provide the most nutritional value.
Tips for Making this Pesto Egg Recipe
- I use a jar of pesto (or pesto sauce) from the grocery store but you could use homemade pesto if that’s what you prefer.
- Use low calorie bread or keto bread to keep the calorie count lower.
- I don’t recommend cooking these eggs at a temperature any higher than medium. Even medium-high heat has a tendency of cooking the egg too quickly before the top cooks enough and you don’t want to burn your pesto.
